Born in Santiago, Paulo Mendes Cardoso, has lived in the community of Espinho Branco for 23 years.  Educated in the principles of oral tradition, without knowing school or written words, he made his words his brushes and is currently one of the village's resident artists.

Having been part of the RabelArti project, an initiative by Maria Isabel Alves, (Misá) and the community of Rabelados de Espinho Branco whose main objective was to support children and young people in the community so that they could have a space dedicated to creation and showing the works produced by the community,Paulo Mendes Cardoso, a self-taught artist, developed his own extremely original language, which we are pleased to be able to present here.

The paintings made with black acrylic paint, on hotel sheets purchased from informal vendors, reflect a very private personal universe, which we are sure will deserve your attention.
